Report on the latest period of the Committee of Directors of University Libraries

In the past two years the objectives of the Committee were the following: to develop joint research workshops of member libraries, to compile recommendations on higher education for librarianship, to discuss salary-related problems and to formulate the concept of a national computerised system of university libraries. The draft statute of the Committee was modified to make interlibrary cooperation more effective. At the 21st Annual Conference of the Association of Hungarian Librarians university libraries had an opportunity to get acquainted with the firm Swets and Zeitlinger GmbH and to negotiate potential areas of cooperation. As political changes have speeded up, the meeting with the then Minister of Culture, Ferenc Glatz who had been invited to the forthcoming meeting of the Committee had to be cancelled. The further agenda of the Committee includes the problem of sponsoring library journals which are in need of financial support ( Könyvtáros, Tudományos és Muszaki Tájékoztatás, Könyvtári Figyelo ).
