Some aspects of librarianship in Sub-Carpathia.
FUTAKY László
The author presents, with a library-historical approach, the past and present of Sub-Carpathia. At present the number of libraries in the region exceeds 800, the size of their stock is over 10 million units, materials in Hungarian are to be found in 118 libraries. According to a questionnaire survey among the population the reasons for dissatisfaction with library supply are the following. 1. miserable interior design and equipment of libraries, 2. the information-poor bookstock, 3. the small share of the literature for the nationalities. The trends of increasing openness in today's social policy give better chances to restructuring in the library profession as well, and one can already meet some examples for this. (pp. 261-272)
